The Saucer

Kamitori's form is borrowed from the washi lantern tradition of central Japan — the oblate disc, flattened into a wide saucer shape whose warm glow spreads wide and low over the table beneath it. The washi paper is hand-formed over a bamboo rib structure; the natural inclusions — dark specks and fibres — are not defects but marks of authenticity, of paper made by hand.

50 cm or 60 cm

At 50 cm, Kamitori is the pendant for a square kitchen table for two, or a reading chair in a corner. At 60 cm, it becomes the centrepiece of a dining room — wide enough to cover the full width of a table for four without casting shadows on any seated guest.

The natural inclusions in the washi paper give each lamp a slightly unique character
