The composition

Belston is built from two materials placed in deliberate tension: a cylindrical shade — arch-topped, finished in a rich walnut wood-grain, with a warm gold interior that reflects light downward — and a small sphere of natural travertine marble, set at the crown of the shade where a canopy would ordinarily be. The stone sits there doing nothing structurally useful, and that is precisely the point. It is an object placed at the top of a lamp the way a good stylist places a found object on a shelf: purposefully, with restraint.

The light it makes

The interior of the shade is finished in warm gold, which means the downward beam has amber warmth to it — a quality that makes food look good, that flatters skin, that turns a dining table into a place people want to stay. The shade contains the light rather than flooding the room; Belston illuminates a table, a work surface, a composition of objects on a desk.

Choose your light

Belston takes a single E27 bulb (9W recommended, not included) in your choice of warm white, cool white, neutral white, or a touch-switch tunable version that moves between all three — so the same fixture can read as a bedside glow at night and a crisper task light by day.

Two suspension options

Fixed cord for permanent installation at a fixed height. Retractable cord, on an internal spring mechanism, for adjustable drop — useful over dining tables or bedside surfaces where height may need to change.
